What's the difference between a MD & a DO?

Typically people interested in pursuing a MD (Medical Doctor) or a DO (Doctor of Osteopathy) have a four year undergraduate degree with an emphasis on science courses. Both MD's and DO's complete four years of basic medical education.

After medical school and after completing a residency program (typically two to six years of additional training), MD's and DO's will have the necessary skills to practice in an area like family medicine. Some will also enter specialty areas such as psychiatry, surgery or obstetrics. Both MD's and DO's must pass comparable (or even identical) state licensing examinations.

MD's and DO's practice in fully accredited and licensed hospitals and medical centers. The MD's and DO's on staff at Family Medical Center of La Grange have admitting rights to AMITA Helath Adventist Medical Center La Grange and AMITA Health Adventist Medical Center Hinsdale .

The MD's and DO's on staff at Family Medical Center of La Grange are Board Certified Physicians and members of American Academy of Family Physicians.
